Theatre Workshop has consistently hosted theatre seminars featuring invited guests.
This year, we are launching a new seminar series, "Ito-Juku," led by our representative, Masaji Ito.
With 50 years of experience in theatre architecture research and extensive involvement in theatre and performance spaces, Masaji Ito will lead each session, focusing on specific themes.
Building on research findings and practical insights, participants will engage in discussions to develop a new theatre model for the 2030s.
Message from Masaji Ito, Representative Director
With the changes in lifestyle, there has been a growing demand for comfortable spaces outside of home, school, and work, often referred to as the "third place." A prime example is libraries with cafés, which have become popular and well-frequented third places in Japan.
Public halls are now also expected to be open spaces where people from all walks of life can casually visit and enjoy rich experiences. Especially as venues for cultural and artistic creation, public halls are expected to become places where people gather together to enjoy music, theatre, and dance.
Looking ahead, public halls are likely to evolve into co-creation spaces that transcend the concept of the third place, becoming what we could call "Fourth Places," further increasing their value and relevance.
