Theatre Seminar "Ito-Juku" vol.06 Music with the Eyes, Theatre with the Ears

Theatre Workshop has consistently hosted theatre seminars featuring invited guests.

This year, we are launching a new seminar series, "Ito-Juku," led by our representative, Masaji Ito.

With 50 years of experience in theatre architecture research and extensive involvement in theatre and performance spaces, Masaji Ito will lead each session, focusing on specific themes.

Building on research findings and practical insights, participants will engage in discussions to develop a new theatre model for the 2030s.

Masaji Ito, Representative Director Message

As humans, we constantly engage with the world through our five senses.
At times, we even rely on a sixth sense.
We don’t merely listen to a concert or watch a play—we experience them.

By appealing to all the senses, live performances can become even more immersive and captivating.

Visuals have become essential in large-scale concerts held in arenas and domes.
Cinema concerts, where film and live performance merge, have also gained popularity.
Musicals now incorporate sound systems that allow audio to move dynamically with the actors’ movements.

If we further engage the senses of smell, taste, and touch, what new dimensions of theatre and music might emerge?
Something truly groundbreaking is bound to take shape.

For this sixth installment, "Music with the Eyes, Theatre with the Ears," we welcome Mr. Yasuhisa Toyoda to explore whether these ideas are pure imagination—or the future of live performance.
