Theatre Seminar "Ito-Juku" vol.07 Theatre-Complex

Theatre Workshop has consistently hosted theatre seminars featuring invited guests.

This year, we are launching a new seminar series, "Ito-Juku," led by our representative, Masaji Ito.

With 50 years of experience in theatre architecture research and extensive involvement in theatre and performance spaces, Masaji Ito will lead each session, focusing on specific themes.

Building on research findings and practical insights, participants will engage in discussions to develop a new theatre model for the 2030s.

Masaji Ito, Representative Director Message

One of my ideal visions for a theatre is a complex—a smaller version of a cinema multiplex.

I envision the theatre not only as a space for performances but also as a hub for the creation of works.

Each day, theatre company members would gather in the morning to rehearse, set up equipment, and gradually bring their creations to life. With a cluster of theatres, multiple theatre companies could work simultaneously in the same space, stimulating each other and fostering diverse interactions. For theatre enthusiasts, one of the greatest pleasures would be the opportunity to peek into this creative process.

Theatre-Complex, a dream come true in Osaka, is the embodiment of this vision: the Ogimachi Museum Cube.

The ten spaces, known as "Cubes," serve as theatres, cinemas, exhibition rooms, rehearsal halls, and more.

This session will feature a tour of the facility.
Please enjoy the experience!
