We want as many people as possible to visit the theater because it is a facility where they can experience excitement and enrich their lives. For this reason, we need people who love the performing arts, understand the role that theaters should play, and at the same time can carefully understand the wishes of the various people who use them. I am also providing support from the soft side, acting as a link to reflect such thoughts and wishes in the construction and management of the facility.
Concerned that facilities that were supposed to be built as symbols of the city with high expectations are being referred to as a negative legacy without being fully understood and used, Theatre Workshop has embarked on a consulting project focusing on how the facilities are used. What we have noticed in our various experiences is that most facilities and functions that are not being used are not created from the user's perspective. Therefore, in the programming stage, we survey the actual conditions of surrounding facilities and interview people involved in cultural activities in the community to grasp specific demands and latent needs, which are then reflected in the design decisions.
The best way to understand what is required of theaters and halls is to listen to the voices of future users and people involved in hall management. To this end, we, the people in charge of software, are taking the lead in holding workshops in various parts of the country with the participation of local residents. We involve residents from the conceptual stage, and ask them to actively participate in the creation of theaters and halls in their own cities.
The sad thing about being a consultant is that you can be a creator, but you cannot be a nurturer. It is the people who live and work there who will actually nurture the hall. Many of the people who participated in the construction of the hall will continue to play an active role in making it even better after its opening. Our work does not end after construction. In addition to consulting, Theatre Workshop also has a department that manages the operation of the facility after its completion and conducts branding through the planning and implementation of event projects. As one of the founding parents, we also help you continue to nurture your theater.
Everyone is a teammate, not only the designers and administrative staff, but also those who participated in workshops and pre-events. Our important role is to coordinate and realize the different ideas of each member into a single form so that the facility will be loved by the community.
We place great importance on creating materials that are visually appealing, easy to understand, and convey the intent of the project, and on carefully explaining the project to the participants. It is the consultant's responsibility to organize things in a way that is easy to understand and to gain the client's understanding. We ask participants to fill out a questionnaire at each workshop, which we use as a tool to deepen our relationship of trust with local residents, and we encourage their interest and participation in the project by having them respond in a friendly and humorous manner.
In order to make positive use of the facility, we must be knowledgeable about the facility and the laws surrounding its operation. We also keep our antenna up to date on the status of similar facilities and new developments in Japan and overseas to create new uses. Our unparalleled strength is our ability to provide total support for the construction and operation of theaters and halls, from building relationships with people to complicated procedures.
