That theater poster exhibition "Japan Avant-garde" is coming to Kansai...!
Posters of productions staged at the former Ogimachi Museum Square will also be on display!
From the 1960s to the mid-1980s, the theater world was dominated by "underground" theater companies such as Jokyo Gekijo, Tentou Shashiki, Black Tent, Jiyu Gekijo, and Dairakudakan, which were distinct from so-called commercial theater, and created a unique world. The posters for these performances were created by first-rate artists and overflowed with passionate messages.
They are now highly regarded artistically, and only a limited number were produced for performances at the time, so there are only a few of them in existence.
This is a rare opportunity to see over 100 masterpiece posters of underground theater of the time, transcending company boundaries.
