Theatre Workshop has consistently hosted theatre seminars featuring invited guests.
This year, we are launching a new seminar series, "Ito-Juku," led by our representative, Masaji Ito.
With 50 years of experience in theatre architecture research and extensive involvement in theatre and performance spaces, Masaji Ito will lead each session, focusing on specific themes.
Building on research findings and practical insights, participants will engage in discussions to develop a new theatre model for the 2030s.
Masaji Ito, Representative Director Message
In my studies of architectural planning, I was taught that space has a function, and that what is functional is beautiful.
The most important aspect of architectural design was how to make a space easy to use for its intended purpose.
The relationship between function and space was also reflected in the names of rooms: conference rooms, rehearsal rooms, exhibition rooms, and so on.
However, such functionalist thinking has evolved over time, and the relationship between space and function seems to have become increasingly blurred.
The Ogimachi Museum Cube, a venue we created, consists of 10 cubes.
The cubes represent only the form of the space—how they are used is entirely up to the user.
"Do as you please."
