Theatre Seminar "Ito Juku" vol.03 The Concept of Theatrical Space

Vol. 03 will be titled "The Concept of Theater Space".

What would you call the space combining the stage and the audience?
In fact, there is no clear expression for the concept in architectural terminology.
Therefore, we have decided to call it a "theater space.
This time, we will explore the possibilities of a new theater by considering the "theater space" as a single unit.

Masaji Ito, Representative Director Message

The third session of Ito Juku is a discussion of theatrical space.

The new theater movement of the 20th century broke down the "fourth wall" separating stage and audience and brought the acting space into the audience. It was also a return to the theater of the Greek and Shakespearean eras.
The division between the stage and the audience no longer makes sense, and a trend has emerged and taken root in which the sense of unity between the stage and the audience, the greatest attraction of live entertainment, is more strongly emphasized. Adaptable theaters that can transform the relationship between the stage and the audience in various ways have also emerged.
Let us look back on these changes in theatrical space and together consider where the appeal of theatrical space lies!
