Theatre Workshop has consistently hosted theatre seminars featuring invited guests.
This year, we are launching a new seminar series, "Ito-Juku," led by our representative, Masaji Ito.
With 50 years of experience in theatre architecture research and extensive involvement in theatre and performance spaces, Masaji Ito will lead each session, focusing on specific themes.
Building on research findings and practical insights, participants will engage in discussions to develop a new theatre model for the 2030s.
Vol. 02 will be titled "In Praise of Non-Purpose Halls" and will discuss multipurpose halls.
Early public halls were often criticized with the phrase, "multipurpose is purposeless." Let’s reconsider both their merits and drawbacks.
The trend shifted from multipurpose halls to dedicated theatres, while the movement toward super-purpose halls expanded the potential of these spaces.
And now, we may be entering the era of the "Non-Purpose Hall"!
Masaji Ito, Representative Director Message
In Vol. 01, I provided an overview of the course’s purpose and the 2030 model we aim to develop.
More people than expected have shown interest, and participants are joining us not only on-site but also online from across Japan. We are truly grateful to all of you. Thank you so much.
Looking back, we’ve always been a team—thinking, planning, and working together.
Starting with Vol. 02, we will narrow down the themes. Based on research and practical results for each theme, we will collaboratively discuss and build the 2030 model with all participants.
To make this process more attractive and feasible, it’s essential that we gather, create, and nurture our collective strengths.
We look forward to your participation!
