Architect Forum Representative Director: Seisho Furuya

The 221st Architects' Forum Theatre Today and Tomorrow

Hall buildings built after World War II have reached their renewal period and are being rebuilt. Many of them are being newly built, but some are being renovated, making use of the original architecture. In each case, various functions have been added to meet the needs of the modern age, or facilities have been renewed through renovation, creating halls that have evolved in various ways.
Tetsuya Kobayashi, a musician himself, has long worked as a hall consultant, collaborating with architects who design theaters. He has also worked as an organizer in the planning and conceptualization stages of new halls ordered by local governments and other organizations. He has worked with me on all five of my own hall designs and has also been instrumental in putting together several proposals that never came to fruition.
For the Architects' Forum in December, which will conclude this year, we will invite Mr. Kobayashi, who is well versed in the state of the art of cutting-edge halls, to talk with us about the state of the art of theater today and his vision of the future of theater from that point on. We would like to invite not only those who are designing halls in the future, but also those who will be the audience of many halls in the future, to gather and have a great discussion about the future of the theater.
